Vision and MissionThe Foundation of the Peoples of the South Pacific International (FSPI) is the regional secretariat for a network of 10 independent community-based organisations working in the Pacific to foster self-reliance and sustainable development.

FSPI is the largest, most experienced secular civil society organisation in the Pacific, with Network Partners in Fiji, Kiribati, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Timor-Leste, and metropolitan partners in Australia and the United States. Pacific Island peoples have developed a close relationship with the ocean over millennia and the sea is a key part of the region’s rich cultures. The capacity and vast knowledge of coastal communities provide the fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable livelihoods based on healthy natural resources and within the context of cash-strapped economies.>>> The FSPI Governance Programme evolved from efforts to address the critical governance issues facing the Pacific community and promote the development of good governance from community level in the region. >>> FSPI’s Regional Health Programme works to create sustainable and healthy islands and better health for the people of the Pacific Islands. The programme has a commitment to facilitate and encourage healthy lifestyles, informed choices and to contribute to the creation of a sound environment to help support the health of the Pacific Islands region and its peoples. >>>

The Community Disaster Risk Management Programme (Disaster Programme) works with communities to build their resilience to natural disasters by mainstreaming risk reduction into community development. >>> The Mainstreaming of Rural Development Innovations (MORDI) Programme is aimed at supporting innovative, sustainable livelihood opportunities for the poor, vulnerable and isolated rural communities in the eight Pacific Island member countries of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). >>> FSPI is the regional secretariat of 10 independent NGOs working across the Pacific and in Timor Leste.

FSPI also works with two metropolitan partners based in the US and Australia: Counterpart International and the Australian Foundation for the Peoples of Asia and the Pacific. >>>
