 A Time of Change

The past two years have seen many changes at the FSPI Secretariat and within our network. In December 2001, the Regional Secretariat moved its base from Port Vila, Vanuatu to its new headquarters in Suva, Fiji. The change in location was accompanied by a number of changes in staff, including a new Project Coordinator, a new Administrative Manager and an Administrative Assistant.

The implementation of the visioning process initiated in 2001 saw FSPI move in new directions to better reflect our revised vision and mission statement. These changes arose through a concerted effort to be as strategic as possible and to ensure that all of our programs are driven by the expressed needs of communities.

During 2002, we also modified our organizational structure and some of our operating procedures. For example, a Code of Conduct and Staff Manual were revised in 2001 and 2002 by the Secretariat personnel.

The FSPI Secretariat's key areas of strategic focus  for next year include :

  • Clarify the roles and responsibilities of FSPI staff and Board members and their relationships with the members of the Network
  • Build the capacity of FSPI Secretariat in order to enhance service to members
  • Improve communication and relationships with stakeholders including regional NGOs, inter-governmental organizations, multilateral organizations and member organizations
  • Identify FSPI Secretariat core competencies
  • Provide guidance and vision to the FSPI network, regional NGOs and other stakeholders as needed
  • Secure adequate financial resources
