FPCD, both independently and in partnership with FSPI metropolitan affiliates has been working in community development work in the less developed areas of Papua New Guinea since 1965.

FPCD is very active in PNG and focuses on five core programmes which are: Awareness Community Theatre (ACT), Ecoforestry, Grass Roots Opportunity for Work (GROW), Literacy Education and Awareness Development (LEAD), and Integrated Conservation and Development (ICAD).

A Brief History

Beginning in 1968 with a regional focus on development in Bouganville, FPCD has evolved into a nation-wide organisation concentrating on disaster relief, eco-forestry, conservation and development, literacy, and community theatre that addresses health and social issues through drama.

FPCD's projects have ranged from fisheries, agriculture, renewable energy, rural water supply, appropriate technology, environmental protection, health and education to small-scale village-based industry development.

  • Drought relief and rehabilitation in eastern PNG

  • Aitape Tsunami relief and rehabilitation

  • Health, population and family planning through community theatre

  • Lakekamu-Kunimaipa Basin integarted conservation and development project, including ecotourism, marketing of non-timber products and education

  • Literacy education

  • Conflict management in the development and use of natural resources

  • Member of the Forest Stewardship Council

  • Forest certification/ecoforestry

  • Oro wildlife and habitat conservation project
