FSPI’s staff are some of the brightest, committed and passionate people in their field, led by Executive Director Rex Horoi. The Secretariat employs 24 people within its five signature programmes, as well technical support and administrative staff in the Programmes Support Unit and Communication and Advocacy Unit.

Metropolitan Partners
FSPI works with two metropolitan partners based in the United States and Australia.
Counterpart International (the progenitor of FSPI) is based in Arlington, Virginia in the United States. It was launched in 1965 as the Foundation for the Peoples of the South Pacific and changed its name to Counterpart International as the bulk of its operations moved to the former Soviet Union in the 1990s. Counterpart has more than 500 staff and a budget of US$125 million and works directly or with partners in more than 60 countries. It implements programmes in Eurasia, the former Soviet Union, the Subcontinent, central and southeast Asia, Central and North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and Oceania. Its primary purpose is to build the capacity of local communities, and the institutions which serve them, to address pre-defined needs in sustainable, practical and culturally appropriate ways.
The Australian Foundation for the Peoples of Asia and the Pacific (AFAP) is an innovative overseas aid organisation based out of Sydney that aims to make a positive difference to the lives of people throughout Africa, Asia and the Pacific. AFAP also aims to raise awareness of the current situation of these regions within the wider Australian community. AFAP is a non-profit, secular organisation that was established in Australia in 1968 and incorporated in the state of New South Wales in 1983. AFAP partners with in-country NGOs in each of the countries where it works. These partners aid AFAP in the creation and implementation of all programmes and give a local voice to the inhabitants of these communities. The local knowledge and expertise they possess is critical to the success of programmes.
