Past projects were in the area of malaria prevention, addressing vitamin A deficiency, eco-forestry, coral reef conservation, small business development, fruit fly eradication and rural water supply and sanitation. Other projects SIDT was involved in include:
- Health, population and family planning through community theatre
- Ross Mining project – community representation and negotiation with mining company
- Ecoforestry and ecotimber production
- Rural water supply and sanitation
Smaller projects, which have worked their way into the larger programmes, include upgrades in family toilets and kitchens, creation of gardens and the provision of mosquito nets. All these smaller projects were sustained through small income generating projects such as ecoforestry efforts, butterfly ranching, coral/seaweed growing, ngali nut oil processing and papermaking.
