In response to requests by communities for income generation opportunities the following technical studies were commissioned by FSPI. Before options such as coral farming can be suggested both technical and financial viability need to be thoroughly explored. These studies are analyses of the financial viability of cultured coral for the aquarium trade in the Solomon Islands and Fiji and provide information for use by decision-makers, practitioners and communities in these countries.
The studies where conducted by Dr Padma Lal with the assistance of Mr Jeff Kinch (Solomon Islands report) and Mr Albert Ceralala (Fiji report) with funding provided by the Canada South Pacific Ocean Development Programme Phase II through SPREP.
